Summary
A GLASGOW street was sealed off following a chemical spill scare. Emergency services were called to Hayburn Street, Partick, after a suspicious canister was found. Witnesses said they saw fumes coming from the canister, which police later said contained hydrochloric acid. The street was immediately cordoned off and residents were told to keep windows and doors shut. Fire crews from three vehicles wearing breathing apparatus and chemical suits worked to make the canister safe.
They were joined by a team from the council-run Glasgow Scientific Services and environmental health. Sandra Connel, 46, who lives in Hayburn Sreet, said:" It was a black plastic drum." The stuff coming out of it was green and there were lumpy bits in it. It looked like vegetable oil." There was also smoke coming out of it, but the drum was not melting." Sohia Rekiovak, 24, who was walking by at the time, said:" I went to the shop and saw police coming and they were turning around quickly.See the full content of this document
