EVEN though South Africa is thousands of miles distant from Glasgow, the nation's struggle to free itself from the evils of apartheid struck a chord with many ordinary Glaswegians.
In 1981 as part of the ongoing struggle, and despite howls of protest from some quarters in the City Chambers, Glasgow became the first city in the world to grant its freedom to the then imprisoned ANC leader Nelson Mandela.See the full content of this document
