ON JAILING the man who crashed his car into 18-month-old Melissa McInnes and killed her, Judge Lord Menzies pompously pronounced that "This is not a court of vengeance or a court of retribution. It is a court of law".
It's certainly not a court of justice when a child's life is deemed worthy of just three years in prison. What kind of message does this sentence send out to dangerous drivers?
