THOUSANDS of pounds are being spent on mystery shoppers in Scotland each year.

Glasgow City Council said it had carried out three exercises to assess how council staff dealt with the public since January 2009. It said a survey in November 2009, where 14 staff were involved as mystery shoppers, cost pound(s)4485 and a one in April last year, carried out by an external organisation, cost pound(s)3554
