Clyde Jobs Fears Over Plan to Share Carriers

Summary


THERE are fears today one of the two aircraft carrier contracts for Clyde shipbuilding yards could be lost if the UK goes ahead with a proposal for a ship sharing pact with France.

The move would allow the UK to scrap or downgrade one of the two replacement carriers announced in 2007 at a cost of pound(s)5.2billion, but would put thousands of Clyde shipyard jobs at risk.
