Yugoslav puppeteers Zarko Savic and Dragoliub Lazarov put on an impromptu performance outside Sauchiehall Street's Third Eye Centre in 1983 as part of the city's Mayfest celebrations.

The Scottish Trades Union Congress organised arts festival was Glasgow's first big public arts festival, covering theatre, music, dance, and visual arts. After three years of massive losses and controversial management it came to a close in 1997 when the local authority removed its half-a-million pound annual funding.
