THE sun rises over the upper reaches of the River Clyde in Glasgow . . . a potent symbol of a new dawn for the Gorbals. Our stunning picture, taken yesterday morning, shows the morning sun over the illuminated tidal weir with the chimney of the Adelphi distillery in the background.

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a 48- year-old who was found bleeding to death in a flat. The 22-year-old man is in police custody following the death of Andrew Healey in Chapelhall, near Airdrie.
Appeal Heard Over School Religion Row
AN APPEAL in the case of an atheist teacher turned down for promoted job at a Catholic school was being heard today. Maths teacher David McNab, 54, was awarded GBP2000 by an employment tribunal last March after claiming religious discrimination. The row began when he applied for a pastoral care post at St Paul's Roman Catholic High School in Glasgow.
Police Step Up Hunt for Gbp100,000 Bank Raider
POLICE today stepped up their hunt for a masked raider who fled with more than GBP100,000. A security guard was attacked during the late night robbery which saw the raider flee with four grey boxes laden with cash, as reported in later editions of last night's Evening Times.
Drama Teacher Dies in Front of Class
A POPULAR teacher has died after suffering a heart attack in front of his pupils and colleagues. Drama teacher Peter Rafferty 54, collapsed at Our Lady's High School, Cumbernauld. Staff and pupils who saw him fall raised the alarm.

GLASGOW was to the fore when the nominations for next month's Brit awards were revealed at a star-studded party in London last night. City Pupils Question World Leaders
TWO Glasgow students have been told by world leaders that global warming is the greatest threat to mankind. Annabelle Njenga, 17, a pupil at Bellahouston Academy and Sean Watson, also 17, from All Saints Secondary quizzed ex-US vice president Al Gore and former UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix at a VIP event in Glasgow's Hilton Hotel.
