GLASGOW is bidding for new cash aimed at getting thousands more unemployed people into work. The city council has a target of reducing the number of people on benefits by 35,000 by 2010.

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy had to be rescued by firefighters today after he got trapped in netting on the eighth floor of a block of Glasgow flats. The incident happened around 1pm at Fountainwell Terrace in the Sighthill area.

SCOTLAND'S top prosecutor was being formally introduced to the House of Lords today. Lord Advocate Colin Boyd, QC, was appointed a life peer in April and he has adopted the title The Right Honourable The Lord Boyd of Duncansby.

Gbp14 Mferry Rail Link Plan

TRANSPORT bosses want to open a defunct wartime rail line to link up with what will become Scotland's main ferry terminal for Ireland. Ferry operator Stena plans to move from Stranraer to Cairnryan, which is not served by the rail network. Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is investigating opening the line at a cost of more than GBP14million.

AMOTHER has been charged with breach of the peace after an incident in a Glasgow school playground. A female teacher was involved in the incident last week during an end of term party for pupils at Drumoyne Primary School in Govan.

3 Stabbed As Knife Amnesty Ends

THREE men were stabbed over the weekend just as Scotland's latest crackdown on knife crime was coming to an end. The first attack took place on a 20-year-old at 1am on Saturday in Bishopton's Greenock Road - one hour after the knife amnesty Operation Shield ended.
