Highers Blow for Glasgow Youngsters; Pupils' Results Well Below National Average

FIFTH year pupils in Glasgow are six times less likely than those in a neighbouring council area to get five Highers at the highest grades. PRISON escort firm Reliance had been told when to expect extra prisoners before its boss claimed staff had been caught unawares by high volumes of inmates, a report reveals today. Reliance managing director Tom Riall told a committee of MSPs the firm had not anticipated a heavier workload after weekends when quizzed over a catalogue of failures earlier this year.
